Sermorelin® is the pharmaceutical version of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), the primary hormone responsible for stimulating natural growth hormone production. It is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue, a substance that encourages enhanced growth hormone secretion from the pituitary gland. It is also known as growth hormone releasing factor and GRF 1-29.
Sermorelin is also known as GRF 1-29 or Sermorelin acetate, which are both variations of its chemical name. The substance is a peptide counterpart of a hormone called growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), for which synthesis declines with advancing years. It is used medically as an anti-ageing treatment with the ultimate effect of increasing the body’s endogenous growth hormone secretion (HGH).
Research has shown that Sermorelin works by supporting the pituitary gland's efficient functioning. This gland's job is to secrete hormones that regulate the body's physiological processes, including growth, pregnancy, delivery, and metabolism, among other things.
Sermorelin functions similarly to the body's natural GHRH by binding to the growth hormone releasing hormone receptor (GHRHr) in the anterior pituitary gland.
